Jason
started his marching band career with the Pioneer Scouts from Rednal,
Birmingham in 1980, where he remained until 1988. During his time with
the Pioneers, he took an active roll with the Colour Guard and has
been involved ever since.
In 1988 he joined the Beechmen from West Bromwich where he played bass
drum for a year and then snare drum during 1989. In 1990 he marched
half a season with the Sunrisers, leaving to instruct with Diamond
Vanguard from Tewkesbury. From 1990 to 1992, he was visual instructor
until the corps sadly had to fold (through no fault of his own).
2002 marked Jason’s 10th anniversary with SK, two seasons
of which were spent as Drum Major. For the bulk of his time to date -
except for a couple of seasons - he has been Visual Instructor playing
a large part in Drill and general conceptual design.
To summarise his interest with the UK Colour Guard scene, he was a
performer in the 1989 ‘Beechmen’ British champion Colour Guard. He
also performed from 1990 to 1993 in the ‘Trilogy’ Colour Guard,
placing 3rd, four years in succession. He was with the
‘Liberty’ Colour Guard during 1994 and SK’s Guard during 1995 placing
4th overall, and winning high equipment.
Wanting to give something back to the activity that he got so much out
of, he has been an active Winterguard judge from 1996 to present.
In 1995, Jason married, and now has 2 lovely daughters, Ellen and
Kate.
His favourite UK corps have been Beechmen, Dagenham Crusaders,
Imperial Knights, Conquest Alliance and the latter period of the Blue
Eagles.
