Jon’s
musical debut came in 1986, when he started to hammer away on an
upright bell lyre in the 8th North Staffs
Boys' Brigade. He
eventually joined the pit section of Stoke Boys Brigade, and was one
of the founder members of the Staffordshire Knights.
Having never felt the
urge to march around a field, and successfully resisted efforts to get
him to do so, Jon did have a two-year spell as the SK drum major
during 1998-99. He has taught and arranged the music for the SK pit
since 1995.
Jon has made the trip
over the pond to watch DCI three times – 1998, 2001 and 2003. (You may
have seen him struggling back through Manchester Airport with a
suitcase full of keyboard mallets!?) Pleading total ignorance of all
things visual, his two favourite corps musically are
Phantom Regiment and
BD, favourite shows
Cavaliers 1995 and
Phantom 2003.
As well as being a
regular instructor at
Pontins events, Jon has
arranged for
Poynton Commodores and is
the arranger for
Black Knights in 2005.
