The
year is 1979, and at the grand old age of 5, Helen started with Leek
Drum & Bugle Corps on tambourine quickly progressing to cymbals and in
1981 she moved on to Eb bugle.
In the
Eighties the corps changed their name to Leek Commodore Cadets and
Helen took up soprano. Continuing this desire to play every instrument
going, Helen moved (and ultimately settled) on to the Mellophone.
In the
late 80's another name change saw the band become 'Phantasy Force'.
Helen left Phantasy around 1990. In July 1992 Helen joined Stoke BB
for the 2nd half of the season in the pit. When SK formed, Helen moved
back onto mellophone, leaving at the end of the 1993 season.
In 1999
Helen had a Son, and returned to SK in August 2002 to help in the pit,
moving back onto Mellophone in 2003.
She has
remained a valuable member of our support staff to date. Also in 2003,
Helen was able to visit DCI for the first time and describes it as a
"great experience" Helen's favourite corps are Madison Scouts, closely
followed by The Cadets, and of course the Blue Devils.
Other
hobbies include running her own Scout group and helping out with the
Cub pack, she also helps at the local Explorers group.
