Gareth (or Gaz), joined the 7th
North Staffs BB in 1986, this company had a marching band which
consisted of members from both the 7th North Staffs and the 3rd North
Staffs companies, and because he'd been playing drums at school, it
was the next logical step to join the BB band. He continued on the
snare drum for around 5 years (including a stint on tenors).
In 1992, Gaz and a few friends
created a 'Pop band' which had its' base at the local youth club. Gaz
played drums and dabbled with keyboard parts until around 1995. In
fact Gaz was very active and immersed himself totally into anything he
did back in his youth.
After 'calling it a day' with the
BB band in order to dedicate his time to college in 1995, he was
introduced to the world of 'Drum Corps', and in 1996 Gaz got involved
with a new corps called the Biddulph Drum & Trumpet Corps.
Unfortunately, for financial reasons, this corps wasn't able to
compete and Gaz did 3 years on snare drum with them before they folded
in 1999.
In September 2002, Gaz joined the
Stafford Lancers as a tenors player and remained for around 12 months.
In October 2003, Gareth joined the
Staffordshire Knights mainly because of a closer proximity to home,
but also for the challenge of getting a new younger corps off the
ground.
In October 2005 after 2 years of
dedication, Gaz became a valued member of the SK instructional team.
Gaz lists his favourite DCI corps as 1. Cadets, 2.
Blue Devils, and 3. Crossmen. Also his musical tastes include
Reggae, Dance, Classical and a touch of Jazz and Blues
