In 1979 at the tender age
of 8, Darren started his musical career playing cymbals with the
25th North Staffs Boys Brigade and later Pit Percussion. The Boys
Brigade played a big part in Darren's life as he spent 12 years
working his way through the ranks finishing as an officer in charge
of the Junior Section.
In 1991, Darren left to
join Stoke BB, where he marched for two seasons. His favourite
season was his final one, playing themes from James Bond. In 1993,
he marched the first season with a new independent corps known as
the Staffordshire Knights. He then marched the subsequent year with
SK before having to leave, due to work commitments.
After a total of 13 years
away from the corps, watching and supporting from a distance (the
Lake District via the web), we are pleased to welcome Darren back to
the corps as a member of our Pit instructional team.
Darren's favourite UK corps were Valley Sound, Conquest Alliance and
the Beechmen, and his favourite US corps would be Phantom Regiment,
Cadets and the Blue Devils
